International conference "Re-Working the Trauma: research on Roma and Jews in the Baltics and USA"

Multicultural center "Padėk Pritapti", Roma Community Center and Lithuanian Jewish Community, in partnership with The Department of National Minorities under Lithuanian Government, The Genocide and Resistance Research Center, The Center of Social Anthropology at VMU, National Martynas Mažvydas Library, Lithuanian Roma Community, are cordially inviting everyone to the international conference on Roma and Jewish Holocaust and Memory studies with a keynote lecture by anthropologist dr. Krista Hegburg from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

 Planned program of the conference:

10 AM – A foreword by the organizers and contributors

10.30 AM – A keynote lecture by dr. Krista Hegburg (USHMM): "Unknown Holocaust?: Trends in the Study of Roma and the Holocaust"

11.45 PM – I panel "Research on Roma Genocide in Lithuania and the Baltics":
dr. Volha Bartash (University of Regensburg, Germany): "Gender, trauma and memory: Romani women in the aftermath of the genocide"
Agnieška Avin, Anna Pilarczyk-Palaitis (Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania): "On the way to visibility. The process of creating a cultural memory of the genocide of Lithuanian Roma" + Presentation of the Lithuanian Roma Oral History Archive

Eva-Liisa Roht-Yilmaz (University of Tartu, Estonia): "The awareness (-raising) of Roma holocaust in Estonia"
2.30 PM – II panel "Trauma and Memory in Lithuania":
dr. Dovilė Budrytė (Georgia Gwinnett College, USA): "Construction of the Holocaust memories in Lithuania: Mnemonic Conflicts and Mnemonic Cooperation"
dr. Neringa Latvytė (Vilnius University, Lithuania): "Healing Wounds of Soul: Silent Memory of the Jewish Women during and after the Holocaust"
dr. Ruth Reches (Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania): "Experiencing Holocaust trauma identities" (in Lithuanian)

3.45 – 4.30 PM – A roundtable discussion on memory politics and memory institutionalization.
Participating: dr. Krista Hegburg (USHMM), dr. Vida Montvydaitė (Department of National Minorities under LR Government), dr. Neringa Latvytė (Vilnius University).
The conference will be held in English with a simultaneous translation to Lithuanian on site. Presentations in Lithuanian will be translated to English on site.
