For the visually impaired

Arrival and Movement in the Library

The entrance to the library is on the Gediminas Avenue side, up the stairs to the main door. The door in the middle of the library opens automatically to the outside. After passing the central door, there is a second glass door about three metres away, which is sliding and opens automatically in both directions. Upon entering, you will immediately be on the second floor.

In the lobby on the second floor, a tactile walkway will take you to the Registration and Information Desk or the lifts. The elevator takes you to all the visitor areas on the five floors.

The library is open to visitors with guide dogs, and dogs can participate in canine therapy classes or other National Library events. The dog must be vaccinated, calm, obedient, trained and socialised, and must be on a leash no longer than 1 meter.

A workstation for the visually impaired

Place – room 238, 2nd floor II

There is:

  • a computer with JAWS screen-reading software;
  • a BRUNO printed text reading machine with headphones and keyboard.

The service is available to registered visitors of the National Library or to those registering through VRSS software on-site. During quarantine, ask for single-use headphones at the Registration and Information Desk.

Book your workstation by calling (8 5) 249 7028 or writing to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. If a specialised workstation is not available, NVDA screen reading software is also available on the computer terminals in the reading rooms.

Printing documents in Braille

The blind and visually impaired can print documents using a Braille printer as well as laminate and bind documents. These services are free of charge and can be ordered at the Registration and Information Desk or by writing to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

We recommend ordering publications in advance via the portal ibiblioteka.lt and selecting the required date. Information specialists can provide assistance in finding books in the open collection.

Tactile paths and stair markings are there to help the visually impaired find their way around the library. If you have questions or need assistance, please ask the employees at the Registration and Information Desk.

People who cannot read common printed text can register for access to ELVIS audio books in the Music and Visual Arts Reading Room (Room 508, 5th floor). Players for listening to audiobooks can also be taken home free of charge. The audiobooks are recorded by staff in the Music and Visual Arts Reading Room on media suitable for the players.
