Project goal

To identify, catalogize, restore, preserve, digitize and make publicly accessible (on the YIVO digital library or on the epaveldas.lt portal) the Judaica manuscript documents contained in the archival collections of the National Library.

Project tasks

  1. to identify documents;
  2. to catalogize documents;
  3. to restore documents;
  4. to preserve documents;
  5. to perform searches for copyright holders – to sign author license agreements;
  6. to digitize documents;
  7. to post the digitised documents on the epaveldas.lt portal and to transfer them for posting on the YIVO digital library.

Project outcomes

Qualitative outcomes of the project:

  • Significantly increased access to the Judaica manuscript documents contained in the archival collections of the National Library.

Quantitative outcomes of the project:

  • Digitization of around 50,000 pages of the Judaica manuscript documents which have been made accessible on the epaveldas.lt portal and the YIVO digital library.

Project target groups

Scientists, researchers and members of the public who are interested in the use of the Judaica documents contained in the archival collections of the National Library.

Expected impact of the project

  1. After relevant documents are identified and catalogued and the formalities regarding the licenses required for the use of the documents are completed, researchers and members of the general public will be provided with access to unique archival documents.
  2. Once the archival documents are restored and digitized, efforts will be made to ensure their physical preservation.
