This year marks 80 years since the birth of Peppe Longstocking!
In cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden, the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania invites you to visit an exhibition of Peppe Longstocking posters. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the creation of the character, her Swedish creator Astrid Lindgren, and the talented illustrator Ingrid Vang Nyman. The exhibition will encourage visitors to discover Peppe’s thoughts and advice on living life with freedom, courage and a smile.
Meanwhile, the reading room will host an exhibition of books featuring Pippi Longstocking and other works by Astrid Lindgren published in Lithuanian.
For the past 80 years, the world’s strongest girl has made us laugh and think. She is brave, carefree, and defiant towards things and people she deems unworthy. She always stands up for the weak because, as Lindgren wrote, “if you are very strong, you must be very good”.
Join us in celebrating this extraordinary girl, who continues to inspire us to be ourselves and believe in our own strength.
The exhibition is open from 4 June to 17 August. It is located on the first floor of the National Library’s Children’s and Youth Centre Literature. Opening hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00–21:00; Saturday–Sunday, 10:00–18:00.
