The Students’ Academic Society at VU IIRPS and the Martynas Mažvydas National Library invites to participate in the discussion of young researchers “Exploring the world of the past. The recent past through the eyes of young scientists.”
The discussion will examine the extent to which the perspectives of researchers who lived during Soviet period differ from those who have no personal (physical) experience of socialism, and will ask whether distance from the period under study allows for a more critical view of it, or perhaps encourages a closer and more sensitive understanding of that period? Among other things, today’s context will be discussed – how the younger generation of researchers interprets the recent past and what these studies can tell us about the present.
This discussion is part of the program of the international conference “The Power of the Powerless: Experiences of Freedom and Solidarity in Central and Eastern Europe,” which will take place on 16-17 October.
Participants in the discussion will include:
🔸 Rusnė Marija Poligaitė (Vilnius University)
🔸 Marta Haiduchok (Central European University)
🔸 Luisa Tousova (Charles University)
🔸 Tautvydas Petrauskas (Lithuanian Culture Research Institute)
The discussion will be moderated by Assoc. Prof. Jogilė Ulinskaitė (Institute of International Relations and Political Science, Vilnius University).
The discussion will be held in English on the second day of the conference, 17 October, at 16:20 p.m. at the Conference Hall (5th floor) of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania.
We look forward to seeing you there!
