9 April 2026
On April 15 at 6 p.m., we invite you to the opening of Daiva Ložytė’s ceramics exhibition “Dead Words” at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. The ceramic works conceptually explore the theme of human existence—the artworks contain “dead”, ancient Lithuanian words that preserve the nation’s historical and cultural experience.
At the exhibition, visitors will see letters depicted in ancient scripts on ceramic mosaics and archaic words evoking the nation’s past, hidden within motifs of ethnographic patterns. “Dead Words,” as art historian Danguolė Ruškienė states, speak “of signs formed in the past and their interpretations, which change and adapt to shifting lives”, while ceramics are a material that accumulates warmth in every sense. However, these words, according to D. Ložytė, are not explicit, but rather hints, “secrets”, preserving more than one might imagine.
Daiva Ložytė (b. 1957) has been holding solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad since 1991. The artist actively participates in group exhibitions, presentations of the country’s applied art abroad, creative plein-air workshops, and symposia. Works by D. Ložytė have been acquired by the Lithuanian Art Fund, the Tajikistan Cultural Fund, the Samogitian Art Museum, as well as private galleries and collectors in Lithuania and abroad. The artist lives and works in Klaipėda.
Visitors will be able to view the exhibition from April 15 to June 21 in the National Library’s Education Lab-Laimė Lukošiūnienė Hall (5th floor) during library hours.
